SMU has now started using a new personailty test for all their students and staff. MyPlan uses a Myers-Briggs type test to figure out personality styles. I'm a huge believer in MBTI. I think my style describes me very well, and it certainly describes my character flaws. I was incredibly proud to be an ESTJ, but for a long time I've felt a change. I felt that I wasn't a true ESTJ, and that perhaps I needed to retake the test. Today, I was forced to take the MyPlan assessment, and all my fears were confirmed; I'm now an ISTJ.
ESTJs are described as "practical, decisive, organized, efficient, structured, determined, realistic."
ISTJs are "quiet, sensible, serious, dependable, organized, practical, realistic, responsible."
I'm just not sure I'm ready for the public title of ISTJ. Especially since this personality is best suited to careers such as Pharmacist, lawyer, engineer, engineering professor, computer analyst, and coroner. Student affairs just seems like a better fit than any of these professions. Could MyPlan be.....wrong?? I guess I have some soul searching to do....
Scary thing is, I think I'm the same. I can't remember 100%, but I'm pretty sure last time I did the MBTI I was ISTJ. Crazy! :-)
ReplyDeleteI don't believe in destiny. The same recipe prepared in different kitchens often produces very different results. The MBTI can provide insight and understanding. It isn't a sentence.
